Stons ā€˜nā€™ Bones WOW Starter

For our history topic this half term, Year 3 are studying our prehistoric past, all the way from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. As part of our WOW starter, we worked hard as copralite detectives to discover what humans ate in the past, drew amazing cave paintings under our tables and created superb hand prints to help decorate our caves. How interesting it was! 

Mother Earth is Weeping

For curriculum week, all of Northmoor are looking at the book 'Mother Earth is Weeping' and discussing the different things we can do to save the planet. Year 3 have been writing amazing acrostic poems all about the environment, and have also planted hundreds of seeds and bulbs to help nature around our school. We can't wait to see all the pollinators our flowers will attract!

3,2,1, Blast Off!

Year 2 have been making moon buggies as part of our Space topic. We designed our buggies, thought about what materials we would need and then created our masterpieces!

Year 3 received a very important letter from King Charles III! He asked us to build a new bridge fit for a royal, to cross the River Thames. Check out our superb structures. What excellent engineers we are!

Deadly Break-in!

Year 3 came in to a nasty shock this morning - our classroom had been broken into by a deadly intruder! The classes searched for clues before discovering it was... The Enormous Crocodile! How awful he is! 

Whatever Next!

This week we have been reading the story 'Whatever Next' We have had lots of fun acting out the story and pretending to be baby bear. We found a rocket, space helmet, space boots and took off into the night sky - we even had a picnic on the moon!

We have also had lots of fun painting and making rockets with 2D shapes and using the playdough to create our own baby bears!

Rocket Role Play

We have been having lots of fun in our rocket role play this week! We dressed up as astronauts and pretended to go to the moon we even saw an alien!

Owls

We had a visit from Katie from SJ Falconry. She brought 4 owls for us to learn about - Fluffy, JD, Midge and Twiglet.
We learnt lots of facts about owls such as that owls can’t move their eyes but can move their heads nearly all the way round. We all loved holding Twiglet.

Hedgehog Bread

While learning about our new topic 'Night and Day' we learnt about nocturnal animals and they come out at night and go to sleep in the day. We enjoyed making and eating our very own hedgehog bread. We used the scales to carefully weigh all the different ingredients and practised our scissor skills when cutting the spikes. 

Curriculum Week

As part of our curriculum week we read the story 'Mother Earth Weeps' We thought about why the ice was melting and what we could do to help stop it. We thought about what it would be like going to the Arctic and had lots of fun acting out being explorers.

Local Area Walk

As part of our topic - Me and My Family we went on a local area walk to look at all the different types of buildings and houses. We saw terraced houses, semi-detached houses and detached houses. We also saw the bakery, a mosque and got to meet the postman who was delivering some parcels.

Real Life Construction

We learnt how to safely use the hammers and screwdrivers to build our car. We used our fine motor skills to connect the nuts onto the bolts.

Making Bread

Our DT lessons this half term have been all about Bread. We enjoyed tasting different types of bread such as; brioche, sourdough, white bread and bagels. We designed our own bread following a design brief. We then followed a recipe to create our own bread.

Odd Socks Day

As part of anti-bullying week we wore odd socks to raise awareness. We donated £1 to the charity Children in Need.

Curriculum Week

We shared the book 'Mother Earth is Weeping.' We thought about the oceans and how our actions affect them. We looked at all the rubbish and pollution that affects the marine life. We acted out being the sea creatures and though how they would feel. We also thought how we could help solve the problem by putting rubbish in the bin and encouraging others to do the same.

Local Area Walk

We went on a local area walk around school to identify the different features. We discussed the different buildings and what they are used for.

Electricity

To start our science topic of electricity, we were given a bulb, wires and a power source and had to try and make the bulb light up.  We had a brilliant time investigating what we needed to do to create a circuit.  

Local Area Walk

As part of our work on the text 'Last Stop on Market Street' we went on a local area walk to try to look at Oldham in a different way.  We were very impressed with Tommyfield Market!

Trip to the Hindu Temple

Year 4 visited the Shree Swaminarayan Mandir in Oldham as part of our R.E. Topic this half term.  We asked lots of questions and this helped us to consolidate everything we had learnt in class.

Greek Pots

Year 4 have been busy this half term, designing and creating their Greek pots as part of the topic "Ancient Greece is the Word."

Outdoor Maths and Flexible Partitioning

Year 4 have been practising flexible partitioning (making numbers up in different ways).

We had lots of fun and it really helped our understanding.  

A trip round the UK! Geography WOW starter

Year 3 have had a fantastic time on their WOW starter afternoon for their geography topic - Location, location, location. We loved learning about the 4 countries of the United Kingdom. We danced an Irish jig whilst visiting Northern Ireland, learnt to speak Welsh in Wales and created our own Loch Ness monster in Scotland. Finally, we finished in England with afternoon tea - just like the King!
